The military says a ballistic missile defense system has successfully intercepted two targets during a test near Hawaii.
The U.S. Missile Defense Agency said Wednesday it was the first operational test and evaluation of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense Element of the Ballistic Missile Defense System. The test took place at the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kauai (kuh-WEYE').
The agency says that during the test, the system engaged and simultaneously intercepted two short-range ballistic missiles.
Officials will review data gathered from the test to evaluate the effectiveness of the system.
