Israel Preparing for war: military leaves cancelled, helicopter traffic surging

A U.S. intelligence source has told G2Bulletin there are more indicators Israel is preparing to launch an attack – possibly against Iran. And if it does, it may be looking at how to undertake a multi-front strategy that would include an assault against Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in the Gaza Strip or even Syria, according to a report fromJoseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

Separate sources suggest that Syria would welcome such an attack to divert attention from its own internal violent demonstrations against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The latest indications and warnings, or I&W, come two weeks following G2Bulletin's initial report that the Pentagon was watching for a long-anticipated Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear sites.

That came after revelations of an alleged Iranian plot to kill the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States. At that time, a U.S. intelligence source who monitors Israeli I&W said the U.S. was watching "an indicator and warning matrix" in which the U.S. can "go so far as to plot the illumination tables to pick out what nights would be best" for such an attack.


He said that U.S. analysts were concerned that an attack could be "imminent." The intelligence source said there was a "green light" for the Israelis "to do a strike," although it wasn't clear whether that green light is coming from within the Israeli political and military command structure, or from the U.S. government.

The source now reports further I&W to include unusual helicopter traffic at one of the Israeli training bases.

The source reports that the traffic involves some 20 utility helicopters and three attack helicopters.

"Palestinians" to export direct to EU, avoiding Israel

The European parliament Tuesday gave its green light to a deal enabling Palestinians to export farm and fish products directly to the European Union starting next year, without transit through Israel.
Adopted days after the historic Palestinian bid for U.N. membership, the trade agreement will help boost the Palestinian economy by enabling West Bank and Gaza producers to export goods directly from early 2012, excepting fruit and vegetables.

"This vote allows the European Union to send a united signal to the region and show our commitment to a peaceful end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," said parliamentarian Maria Eleni Koppa.

Israel Raises Alarm of Gaza-Egypt Cooperation

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak both warned in interviews published Wednesday that the situation in Egypt’s Sinai poses a “very troubling” threat to Israel.

After Egypt’s revolution which toppled President Hosni Mubarak, security in the Sinai Peninsula has deteriorated, with Cairo sending troops into the area to try to bring it back under control.

Turkey Blinks (cont..)

Turkey's foreign minister says the prime minister will not cross the border into the Gaza Strip during his trip to Egypt but warns that Israel faces "growing isolation" in the region.


Ahmet Davutoglu said Sunday that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who visits Egypt Monday, will also travel to Tunisia and Libya, but will limit his itinerary to those destinations.


Israel has had strained relations recently with both Turkey and Egypt, where rioters ransacked the Israeli embassy.
A visit to Gaza by Erdogan could spike tensions following Israel's refusal to apologize for its raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla that killed nine pro-Palestinian activists last year.


Israel says it "will act to lower the flames" and try to mend relations with Turkey.

According to the paper, in the Turkish version of the interview, Erdogan said: "At the moment, no doubt, Turkish warships are first of all liable to protect their own ships. This is the first step. And there is humanitarian aid, which we will extend. Our humanitarian assistance will no longer be attacked as happened in the case of the Mavi Marmara."

A senior government official quoted by Today's Zaman on Friday said Erdogan's remarks did not mean Ankara was preparing to send humanitarian-aid ships to Gaza, escorted by Turkish gunboats.

"As long as Israel does not interfere in the freedom of navigation, we do not plan on sending any warships to escort humanitarian-aid ships," the official was quoted as saying.

"The misquoted remarks suggest that we have been readying to provide a warship to escort each humanitarian aid ship. This is not the case. However, Turkey will protect its citizens' rights in the event of any interference in international waters."
